“Balay Silangan” clients avail beauty care and welding skills training

The Balay Silangan Reformatory Center conducts training on Beauty Care and Welding to 36 clients to provide them capability building skills and prepare them for sustainable livelihood when they return to the community after they graduate for six months at the facility.

Joana Dimput, social welfare assigned at the center said the training started on February 20 until March 13, 2021.

The program was conducted through the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

At least 6 female clients undergo the beauty care training include cosmetology, manicure, pedicure, foot spa, and hand spa, while 25 more male clients took up welding training.

Dimput said, aside from this training, the center also conducted training on bayong making, rug making, and food processing.

These clients who started their program at the Balay Silangan in November 2020 are due for graduation on May 13, 2021.

Dimput said, aside from this skills training, they also undergo other reformatory sessions at the center to include spiritual formations.

“From Monday to Wednesday, they have different tasks to perform to include their household chores and different sessions such as Matrix Intensive Outpatient Program (MIOP), mental health lectures, among others. ” She added,

From Thursday to Saturday, these clients undergo skills training.

Dimput reveals that by far, the clients are also becoming responsible for their daily tasks.

Unlike the previous batches which were allowed to go home during weekends, the present clients are no longer allowed to go home without court orders.
Aside from this, their stay at the center should be six (6) months and not three (3) months only.

“These clients are so fortunate since they were provided with skills training for free,” Dimput said,

Aside from this, clients can avail themselves of the program “Alalay sa Negosyo, Ginhawa at Trabaho” (ANGAT) program when qualified.

This program provides capital seed assistance and helps develop entrepreneurial and labor skills of the poor and vulnerable individuals.
