‘MARITES’ highlights in Population Congress

Koronadal City – Provincial Information Officer Rudy Jimenea emphasized the importance of access to accurate and timely information during his speaking engagement at the Population Congress held recently in Koronadal City.

The event, organized by the Office of the Provincial Population Officer, brought together women leaders and population workers across South Cotabato to discuss vital topics on population management, reproductive health, and grassroots advocacy.

In his message, Jimenea shared insights on the critical role of communication in governance and service delivery.

“Information is not just power—it is a lifeline that connects our communities to opportunities, support, and hope,” he said.

He also introduced a communication strategy dubbed MARITES — short for Media Access and Relevant Information That leads to Effective Services. A creative play on the popular name, the acronym encourages the responsible use of media to spread government-related updates instead of gossip.

“Let’s reshape what Marites means. Let’s turn it into a force for good—sharing only what is true, useful, and empowering,” Jimenea urged.

To reinforce this message, the Provincial Information Office distributed portable radio sets to selected participants, ensuring they stay updated on government announcements even in areas with limited internet access.

In addition, loot bags bearing the slogan ‘Tama kag Maayo nga Serbisyo’ were also given out, symbolizing the provincial government’s commitment to responsive and inclusive governance.

The Population Congress served as a platform for strengthening community-level participation, particularly among women, in promoting family well-being and population development initiatives.
