New barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo ratified in plebiscite

Tupi, South Cotabato, July 14, 2024 – The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced the successful conclusion of the plebiscite to ratify the creation of Barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo in Tupi, South Cotabato. The plebiscite, held on July 13, 2024, was conducted in accordance with Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 158, series of 2023.

In a press statement released by COMELEC,  Atty. John Rex C. Laudiangco, COMELEC Spokersperosn  was quthe new barangay was formed from parts of Barangays Cebuano, Linan, and Miasong. The voter turnout in these barangays was as follows:

  • Barangay Cebuano: 1,294 out of 4,316 registered voters participated, with 1,262 voting YES and 29 voting NO.
  • Barangay Linan: 569 out of 2,357 registered voters participated, with 548 voting YES and 21 voting NO.
  • Barangay Miasong: 622 out of 3,092 registered voters participated, with 583 voting YES and 39 voting NO.

Out of 9,765 registered voters from the participating barangays, a total of 2,485 voters cast their ballots, resulting in an overall voter turnout of 25.45%. An overwhelming 96.30% (2,393 voters) voted in favor of the new barangay, while 3.58% (89 voters) opposed it.

Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “This is a significant step forward for our community. The creation of Barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo will enable more focused and efficient governance, ensuring that services are better tailored to the needs of our residents.”

The peaceful and orderly conduct of the plebiscite was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the local government unit.

Governor Tamayo commended these agencies, saying, “Their dedication and commitment have been instrumental in ensuring the safety and integrity of the electoral process. We are grateful for their support.”

As the new barangay prepares to embark on its journey, Gov. Tamayo urged the residents to work together in building a stronger, more united community.

“Let us seize this opportunity to create a better future for our children and generations to come,” he said.

The creation of Barangay Juan-Loreto Tamayo marks a new chapter in the history of Tupi, South Cotabato, reflecting the collective voice of its people.
