New dog impounding facility inaugurated in Tupi, South Cotabato

Tupi, South Cotabato— Last Monday, a turnover ceremony was held at the Municipal Eco Park in Barangay Kablon to formally launch a new dog impounding facility that aims to address the growing number of stray dogs in Tupi.

The ceremony was led by Romeo S. Tamayo, the mayor of Tupi, who was joined by Municipal Vice Mayor Glen C. Hatulan, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, heads of departments, and representatives from the Provincial Government of South Cotabato.

The facility for impounding dogs, valued at PHP 3 million, was financed by the Provincial Government of South Cotabato under the leadership of Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. Additionally, the project received backing from the Provincial Veterinary Office, led by Dr. Byron F. Dela Cruz.

Launching this facility aims to decrease the presence of stray dogs in public spaces, curb the spread of rabies, lower dog bite incidents, and promote responsible pet ownership among the Tupi community.

Mayor Tamayo expressed gratitude to the Provincial Government and all contributors who assisted in bringing the project to fruition. He emphasized that the facility will be crucial for upholding community health and safety while promoting the compassionate treatment of stray animals.

“This facility reflects our commitment to creating a safer and healthier environment for our community and ensuring that animals are treated with care and respect,” stated Mayor Tamayo.
The municipal government encourages households to vaccinate their pets and keep them on the property to comply with the impoundment program and to practice responsible pet ownership. The dog impounding facility is anticipated to open right away, with the Municipal Veterinary Office in charge of managing and caring for the stray dogs.
