PEMO favors creation of Lake Sebu Dev’t Authority

The Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) chief Siegfred Flaviano favors the creation of the Lake Sebu Development Authority (LSDA) as suggested by members of the Provincial Development Council (PDC) during their  recent meeting.

Lake Sebu is the province’s summer and prime eco-cultural tourist destination which is famous for its lakes, waterfalls and tilapia delicacy, and especially  its zipline, dubbed as South east Asia’s longest and highest

PEMO Flaviano who was the Resource Speaker during the Kapihan sa Kapitolyo Media Forum last Tuesday (April  12) disclosed that with the creation of the LSDA, it means that an autonomous body will now supervise and regulate all the economic activities and implement mandated environment management programs and other other related programs to ensure the conservation, protection and development of the lake.

He added that. different national government agencies will form part of the body such as the DENR, EMB and PAMB, and DA-BFAR since it involved forest protection, water quality management and inland fishing development. Lake Sebu LGU as the host municipality will likewise be involved together with NCIP since the town is the ancestral domain of the Tboli tribe in the province.

As such, Flaviano pointed out, environment fees may be collected which will serve as trust fund that will be used for the operations of LSDA.

The LSDA will only be created through an act of Congress or passage of a law, Flaviano further added.
