The Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) is set to purchase Air and Water Pollution Control equipment before the year ends, a senior PEMO employee disclosed.
Senior Environment Management Specialist Elbe Balucanag of PEMO’s Environment Management Division said that pollution control devices that will be purchase include a Multi-Parameter Probe-type Water Quality Monitoring System and an Anti-Smoke Belching Machine.
“The Multi-Parameter Probe-type Water Quality Monitoring System will be use by PEMO on their quarterly monitoring and assessment of water bodies and effluent from public facilities and commercial and industrial establishments,” Balucanag pointed out, in compliance to Republic Act 9275 or otherwise known as the Clean Water Act of 2004.
Balucanag added that the monitoring and assessment results will be given to concerned LGUs or industry for their own perusal or compliance if they have not been compliant to the existing standards.
For the Anti-Smoke Belching Machine, Balucanag stressed that the machine will be use in roadside monitoring of motor vehicles, together with the South Cotabato Airshed Governing Board, if they are compliant with the air quality standards set by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) under Republic Act 8749 or The Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999.
The Multi-Parameter Probe-type Water Quality Monitoring System whose source of funds will come from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Fund cost P 1 million while the Anti-Smoke Belching Machine is currently pegged at P200,000.00.
