The Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) will conduct training on May 27 – 28 on the management and protection of wildlife to man its Wildlife Restitution Center (WRC) as part of its Bio-Diversity Project located in Tupi and Tampakan towns.
PEMO’s Forest and Inland Water Division chief Forester Mary Jane Manlisis disclosed that individuals that will complete the training will eventually become “Local Para-Vets” or Community Veterinarian.
“Training will focus primarily on the basic concepts of what wildlife is all about, its different types and nature, and how it is handled, protected and managed,” Forester Manlisis emphasized.
Aside from the theoretical aspect of the training which includes habitat conservation, the participants will also conduct a “hands-on” application particularly on wildlife handling and treatment.
The para-vets will take charge of the operations of the WRC that will be specifically established in Lambayong, Tampakan and Linan, Tupi, Manlisis said.
Lambayong is home to different species of birds while Tupi is a known sanctuary of the tarsier, the smallest primate in the world.
Resource persons that will conduct the training will come from the Philippine Eagle Foundation based in Davao City.
