Under the leadership of DepEd 12 Regional Director Alan Farnazo, the Soccsksargen Warriors vow to start strong at the upcoming Palarong Pambansa slated on April 27-May 4, 2019 hosted by the City Government of Davao.
At least 750-strong members of the delegation composed of the athletes, coaches, trainers, chaperones and management staff converged at the Crossing Bayabas National High School as its billeting area for the weeklong duration of the sporting event.
The Soccsksargen warriors conducted its 35-day intensive training at Calumpang National High School in General Santos City in preparation for the event.
Regional Director Alan Farnazo said the team will participate in almost all sporting events including the Paralympics.
Soccsksargen or Region 12 is composed of the provinces of South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sarangani, and Sultan Kudarat; and the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Kidapawan, Cotabato, and Tacurong.
Meanwhile, South Cotabato has sent at least 189 delegates as participants for the Palaro. This includes 50 delegates composed of athletes, coaches, and chaperones for the Elementary, 91 for the Secondary, 17 for the Paralympics and 32 for the general staff.
The provincial government of South Cotabato has allocated Php500,000 cash incentives coming from its Special Education Fund (SEF) to be given to winning athletes from the province. These include Php10,000 for the gold medalists, Php5,000 for the silver medalists and Php3,000 for the bronze medalists.
Another cash incentives will also be given from DepEd 12 and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
The City Government of Davao has spent Php69 million for the hosting of this biggest annual sports event in the country which will be attended by more than 18,000 athletes, guests, and spectators.
No less than President Rodrigo Duterte will grace the opening ceremonies on Sunday which will be held at the Davao City-University of the Philippines-Mindanao Sports Complex in Bago Oshiro, Tugbok District.
