South Cotabato is still way below the threshold level as far as the number of dengue cases it recorded since the start of the year 2020, the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU) of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported.
Disease Surveillance Officer Celia Lorenzo, RND disclosed that as of Morbidity Week #23, South Cotabato has 580 recorded cases with 3 deaths only compared to 2,332 cases and 20 deaths recorded on the same period.
“South Cotabato is below the alert level, as the graph of the recorded dengue cases showed from Week #1 – #23,” Lorenzo explained.
The 3 deaths reported are located in the towns of Banga, Polomolok and T’boli, resulting to a Case Fatality Rate or CFR of 0.5%, which is the standard set by the Department of Health (DOH) for the contagion.
The Mosquito-borne Disease Surveillance Team said that these towns conducted IEC activities and launched Oplan Kulob (search and destroy operation) immediately to eradicate mosquito-breeding sites in their respective municipality to avoid further fatalities.
Last year, the province declared a State of Calamity due to dengue epidemic that hit its component LGUs.
