The Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through the Office of the Provincial Population Officer (OPPO), has intensified its efforts to promote responsible parenthood and adolescent health across the province. In a series of advocacy campaigns rolled out in selected municipalities, the OPPO implemented focused initiatives targeting the youth and pregnant women to raise awareness and strengthen support systems within communities.
These efforts are part of a sustained drive to ensure access to accurate and age-appropriate information, particularly on topics surrounding adolescent health and development (AHD), reproductive health, and maternal well-being. With the increasing challenges faced by young people and expectant mothers in both urban and rural settings, the OPPO’s advocacy programs are seen as timely interventions aligned with broader goals on public health, education, and social welfare.
Among the key components of the campaign were AHD Film Dissemination sessions specifically designed for youth audiences. These sessions used educational and locally contextualized films to engage adolescents in discussions on puberty, peer pressure, early pregnancy, and the importance of making informed life decisions. These screenings were followed by guided conversations facilitated by trained professionals, allowing participants to process the content in a supportive and safe environment.

In parallel, “Usapang Buntis” sessions were conducted for pregnant women, focusing on prenatal care, birth preparedness, nutrition, breastfeeding, and emotional wellness. The sessions served as platforms for information-sharing while also building networks among expectant mothers who often face similar challenges. These activities were carried out in partnership with municipal and barangay local government units, community health workers, and allied sectors, ensuring grassroots-level implementation and participation.
The initiative reflects South Cotabato’s continuing commitment to empowering vulnerable sectors through community-based, informative, and compassionate programs. As the province pushes forward its advocacy on health and population development, efforts like these remain critical in fostering safer, healthier, and more informed communities.
