Sto. Nino farmers double rice yields with mechanization program

The Sto. Nino Farmers Agriculture Cooperative successfully harvested 130 hectares of rice under the Consolidated Rice Production and Mechanization Program during the first quarter of this year.

In connection with this, the cooperative achieved an impressive yield of 8.9 tons of rice per hectare, more than double the usual yield of 4 tons per hectare among farmers in South Cotabato.

According to Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Raul Teves, this is a government program aimed at creating a farming system that enhances productivity and produces a higher volume of rice for farmers.

Dr. Teves added that this program is also one of the government’s strategies to make rice farmers in the province more competitive. It aims to achieve high yields, reduce production costs, implement effective methods such as mechanization, and help farmers sell their products at higher prices.

Currently, efforts are ongoing to expand the areas covered by this program to benefit more farmers in South Cotabato.
