TESDA to establish Php35-million Provincial Training Center in SouthCot

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has allotted Php35 million for the putting –up of a Provincial Training Center (PTC) in South Cotabato to strengthen the provision of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) especially to those coming from far-flung communities.
Regional Director Rafael Abrogar II said the PTC will soon rise at Brgy. Centrala at Surallah town and is set to be completed by March 2020.
Said plan is in line with the action agenda of the agency which is to reach out to marginalized and disadvantaged sectors and to provide them with economic and livelihood opportunities to uplift their economic status.
In the implementation process of its programs, the agency uses the concept of seek, find, train and employ the concept.
While employment is the main purpose of the scholarship, TESDA ensures the creation of opportunities to those who avail of their training programs will become competitive, productive and world-class.
In 2018, TESDA has accomplished at least a 65-67 percent employment rate after six months of training.
Those who were given priority in the provision of scholarships are the indigenous people, former rebels, Persons who use drugs, persons with disability, displaced/disadvantaged women, displaced workers, and victims of natural or manmade calamities.
This year, at least 26,174 clients were given scholarships by TESDA in the entire Region 12.
In South Cotabato at least 5,749 availed of the program.
These include 543 Indigenous people; 119 former rebels, 3182 build build build,117 drug surrenderees; 53 returning overseas Filipino workers; 111 PDLs; 34 family members of those Killed in Actions; 1419 training for work scholarship program; and 171 for Private Education Student Financial Assistant (PESFA).
For 2020, Abrogar said TESDA will continue to implement programs to address poverty, peace and order concerns in the country through the institutionalization of a “ whole of nation approach”, which is a national peace framework to achieve inclusive and sustainable peace, carefully getting to the root causes of conflicts in the country.
TESDA has allotted Php380-million for the implementation of various initiatives in the region.
