2,661 farmers in SoCot receive financial assistance due to el niño

KORONADAL, SOUTH COTABATO – A total of 2,661 farmers in South Cotabato have received financial assistance from the provincial government to help mitigate the severe effects of the El Niño phenomenon.

Each affected farmer was provided with P2,000 in aid, sourced from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), and Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO).

The prolonged drought caused by El Niño last year significantly impacted crops and livelihoods, making government intervention crucial. The financial aid aims to provide relief to affected farmers struggling with production losses due to extreme heat.

Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. assured the public that the provincial government remains committed to assisting farmers in South Cotabato.

“We will continue to support our farmers and ensure they receive the necessary assistance to recover from the challenges brought by this climate crisis,” Tamayo said.

Aside from financial aid, the provincial government is also implementing additional programs to support the agricultural sector. Efforts include crop insurance, alternative livelihood programs, and water conservation projects to help farmers cope with extreme weather conditions.
