To ensure food sufficiency and improved fish production in the province, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist recently dsitributed a total of 109,500 Tilapia Fingerlings to Communal Bodies of water which has benefited a total of 127 fisher folks in South Cotabato.
Provincial Agriculturist Raul Teves said these fingerlings were distributed and dispersed to the following beneficiaries;
20 beneficiaries received 20,000 fingerlings from Brgy. Canahay, Surallah; 15 beneficiaries received 9,000 fingerlings from Koronadal City; 8 beneficiaries received a total of 12,000 fingerlings from Polomolok; 5 beneficiaries received 5,000 fingerlings from Tupi; 12 beneficiaries received 10,000 fingerlings from Tboli; and 23 beneficiaries received 12,500 from Libas, Tantangan.
Meanwhile, for the Lake Sebu, at least 28 beneficiaries received 30,000 fingerlings for Sitio Blit, at Brgy. NED while 16 beneficiaries received 11,000 fingerlings.
Aside from the provision of fingerlings to fisherfolks, the OPAG also conducted capability building initiatives to the beneficiaries.
These include the Conduct of Training on Hito Production to the City Agriculture Office of Koronadal City by in 22 fisherfolks, conduct Municipal Fishery Coordinators & FARMC (Fisheries Aquatic Resource Management Council) Monthly Meeting at Sitio Pedregosa, Brgy. Reyes, Banga, South Cotabato, and the demonstration on the construction of Aquaponics.
