South Cotabato starts supplementary feeding program to combat malnutrition

South Cotabato, Philippines— In a concerted effort to address malnutrition among vulnerable populations, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato launched a supplementary feeding program. The initiative, which commenced on March 13 and will run until March 22, aims to provide essential nutrition to pregnant women and children below five years old.

The supplementary feeding program targets multiple beneficiaries, including pregnant women enrolled in the Bata Alagaan Tamang Nutrisyon ang Kailangan program, children under the Sagop Bata Program initiative, and severely malnourished children supported by the RST sa Nutrisyon program.

Rudy Jimenea, Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, underscored the significance of the program in combating malnutrition. He stated, “The launch of the supplementary feeding program signifies our commitment to addressing malnutrition in South Cotabato. By targeting pregnant women and young children, we aim to break the cycle of malnutrition and ensure the health and well-being of future generations.”

Throughout the duration of the program, a total of 400 pregnant women and severely malnourished children will receive nutritious meals over six days. These meals are meticulously designed to meet the dietary needs of each beneficiary group, with a focus on improving overall health and nutritional status.

Jimenea emphasized the importance of providing comprehensive support to pregnant women and young children during critical stages of development. He added, “Proper nutrition during pregnancy and early childhood is essential for healthy growth and development. Through initiatives like the supplementary feeding program, we can make a significant impact on the health outcomes of our community.”
