Koronadal City—The Provincial Government of South Cotabato granted at least P300, 000 each for the towns of Tupi and Norala to begin their cultural mapping project, Arts and Culture Program Coordinator Indira Cagaanan confirmed.
The Arts, Culture, Tourism and Museum Unit provided a technical assistance to the towns of Tupi and Norala. A local training and orientation was held yesterday to orient mappers and enumerators in recording cultural assets.
“We are very thankful for the full support of the local government units,” Cagaanan said.
Cultural Mapping is an approach to determine cultural assets and map out the cultural landscape of the community.
The Provincial Government aims to complete the cultural mapping project of all towns of South Cotabato in 2025.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)provided financial grants to the towns of Lake Sebu, Tboli and Suralah. The towns of Tampakan and Sto. Nino, however, conducted their cultural mapping project last year with locally funded fund from the provincial government. Next year, the arts and culture team will begin the same project in Polomolok, the hometown of Gawad Manlilikha awardee Fu Yabing Masalon Dulo.
