Newly installed clients which comprise the Batch 4 of the South Cotabato Balay Silangan Reformatory Center start to develop green thumbs as they venture into a new skill on hydroponics.
Early this week, these 50 clients avail free hydroponics training from the Agricultural Training Institute in partnership with Organikian represented by Christian Castaneda.
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil, offers many advantages as compared to traditional methods of planting especially to those who have little space only. Whether it will be used for business or personal use for food, it can help in increasing food sufficiency.
Balay Silangan Silangan Center Manager Genelene Vidanes said the training aims to increase the availability of vegetables in the facility.
“If they will graduate from the facility, it can also be one of their possible business ventures in the future,” she said.
Vidanes added that aside from hydroponics training, the facility already offered several capability-building training for clients such as Beauty Care for women and Welding for men.
Balay Silangan which is one of the flagship programs under the administration of Governor Reynaldo S Tamayo Jr. aims to introduce therapeutic activities and income-generating skills to its clientele.
Its objectives include the provision of a free decent and conducive reformatory facility for drug personalities, conduct various counseling and support sessions for clients to gain recovery and relapse prevention skills, conduct sessions for families in support of clients’ recovery, conduct training for the enhancement of client’s livelihood and employable skills, and provide starter kits or seed capital to those eligible clients to ensure employment or income-generating activities.
Vidanes added that the facility will offer more trainings in the future for the benefit of the clients.
