In final term, Governor Tamayo to champion universal health care and community health workers

South Cotabato, Philippines — As he enters his final term in office, Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. is taking bold steps to fortify the province’s health system. He is renewing his focus on Universal Health Care (UHC) and the empowerment of community-based health workers.

In a recent statement, Governor Tamayo emphasized the importance of grassroots healthcare delivery and support systems:

“Pina-establish ko na ang mga incentives na magkakaroon sila, yung honorarium na magkakaroon sila,” he stated, referring to the Provincial Health Navigators and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) who will play a key role in the province’s health initiatives.

Each Provincial Health Navigator and BHW will be assigned to serve 20 households within their respective areas of responsibility. This strategic move aims to ensure that every household receives regular health checkups, education, and access to basic services, bringing health care closer to the people.

The enhanced implementation of the Universal Health Care Act in South Cotabato is expected to improve access to medical services, increase awareness of preventive care, and reduce health disparities across communities. The governor hopes to build a more responsive and sustainable health care network by investing in local health workers.

Governor Tamayo’s initiative underscores his administration’s commitment to inclusive and community-centered health development, promising a more proactive approach to public health in the years to come.
