The Provincial Environment Management office (PEMO) recently conducted its monitoring and assessment of the on-going construction of the Health Care Waste Treatment Facility located inside the Integrated Provincial Environment Management Center (IPEMC) at Tinongkop, Tantangan.
Senior Environment Management Specialist Elbe Balucanag, chief of PEMO’s Environment Management Division disclosed that the facility maybe operational on the third quarter of the year.
She pointed out that the P 5-million treatment facility will use the “pyro-clave” technology manufactured by RAD Green Solutions, a Davao City-based and EMB-accredited health care waste treatment company.
“With said technology, the facility can treat health care wastes at a rate of 50 kilograms per hour with volume reduction of 80% and weight reduction of 50%,” Balucanag added.
But Balucanag stressed that before operation will take place, its 2 regular and 5 job order employees will undergo capability building training at the RAD Green Solutions facility on the aspect of collection, treatment and disposal of health care waste.
PEMO has already purchased a 1-ton capacity insulated van to serve as transport facility that will handle the health care waste collection activities province-wide.
The South Cotabato Health Care Waste Ordinance was passed recently by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan wherein regulations regarding the handling, transport, storage, treatment and disposal of health care wastes are prescribed.
As of press time, the Implementing Rules and Regulations and Manual of Operations are now being drafted by assigned PEMO personnel.
A tipping fee of P25.00 per kilogram plus additional transport cost per kilometer on handling and collection is “under study” by PEMO.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
