South Cotabato, Philippines — In an effort to address the housing needs of informal settlers in the province, Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. plans to implement an initiative to build at least 100 housing units in each local government unit (LGU) before his term ends.
“We are targeting na makapagpatayo ng not less than one hundred houses in every LGU para sa mga kababayan natin na nasa squatter’s area o yung mga informal settlers dito,” Governor Tamayo said.
As part of Governor Tamayo’s flagship programs, the project will be rolled out across the province’s eleven LGUs, which could result in over 1,100 new homes for marginalized families by the end of the project.
The goal is to begin procurement of construction materials and start construction work before the year ends.
“Susubukan kong magawa ito within the next three years dahil sobrang dami ng mga informal settlers here in the province,” Governor Tamayo assured.
The housing units will be specifically designed for durability and basic comfort, with the focus on relocating families from danger zones and congested urban areas into safer communities.
While specific architectural designs and site locations have yet to be finalized, Governor Tamayo emphasized that this initiative would prioritize sustainability and accessibility for its future residents.
Once completed, the project is expected to address the issue of informal settlements in the province and improve living conditions for thousands of South Cotabateños.
This program is part of Governor Tamayo’s development plans, which include infrastructure upgrades, social services enhancements, and poverty reduction efforts, among others.
