South Cotabato, Philippines—The Provincial Government of South Cotabato with its commitment to the Tama at Maayos na Serbisyo brand of public service leads the orientation on Open Information and Cybersecurity to Civil Society Organizations across the three districts of South Cotabato last March 11,12 & 13.

The orientation aims to provide necessary knowledge and awareness to members of the Peoples’ Organization of the province regarding the existing Freedom of Information Ordinance of the Province and awareness on cybersecurity practices.

Spearheaded by the Provincial Planning and Development Office, the said activity is under the Open Government Partnership program which aims to advocate for transparency in government in the province of South Cotabato. Members of CSOs were oriented regarding the availability of public information through the provincial government of South Cotabato and were given awareness of certain cybersecurity practices.

George Calawigan – a CSO member in the municipality of Surallah stated that they are thankful for the added information that greatly benefited them as a CSO member.

Gapasalamat gid kami sa training, kay damo kami may nakuha nga mga idea kag mga lain pa ihibalo nga wala pa namon nabal-an sadto…”  – Mr. Calawigan stated in an interview.

The campaign on open information is just one of the many action plans of the OGP local program under the Provincial Planning and Development Office.

Furthermore, South Cotabato is only among the few Local Government Units in the Philippines that adopted the Open Government Partnership program that campaigns for a transparent government – in line with the province’s commitment to delivering the “Tama at Maayos na Serbisyo” brand of public service.
