PEMO regulates 47 tunnels in Tboli

The Provincial Environment and Management Office (PEMO) conducts regular monitoring of Tboli Mining Operations to 47 tunnels to ensure the safety of its workers through the conduct of Occupational Safety and Health Training Practices.  OIC Division Chief, Agnes L. Castañares said they have commissioned five employees at the Minahang Bayan Center in Tboli, South Cotabato  to look into the daily activities and operation of the two small scale mining operations.

Castañares said that there are eighteen (18) tunnels maintained at Barangay Kematu and twenty-nine (29) tunnels at Barangay Desawo.

“ Our capability building initiatives and monitoring continue despite during the time of pandemic.”

She added the CB activity is conducted in partnership with the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office (PRRDMO) at least once in every semester.  Further, though the municipality of Tboli is considered as “high risk” for landslide, these areas are properly regulated for several years through their office.

The safety of mining operators and their workers is their main concern besides complying with the licenses and other related permits before their operation.
