Pob. Polomolok NHS, KCES II win SWM Model School Search

CITY OF KORONADAL — Poblacion Polomolok National High School (PPNHS) and Koronadal Central Elementary School (KCES) II won the province-wide 2015 Search for Model School in Solid Waste Management (SWM) in the high school and elementary categories, respectively.

The annual search is a program of the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) that aims to give incentive to schools with best practices in SWM as well as to recognize them as SWM learning sites in the province.

As this year’s first place winner, PPNHS and KCES II received cash incentive of P30,000.00 each plus plaque of recognition, during the awarding ceremony on November 18 at PROTECH Center, this city.

PPNHS also won a Special Award as Best in Documentation while KCES II got the Best in Documentation, Best in IEC and Best in Community Participation Special Awards.

Special Award winners, both in the elementary and high school, received P5,000.00 each.

Other winners in the high school category were Tampakan National High School (2nd place – P20,000.00); Marbel 7 National High School (3rd place – P15,000.00); Cebuano National High School (4th Place – P10,000.00); and Surallah National High School (5th Place – P8,000.00).

Tampakan NHS also garnered 2 Special Awards as Best in Composting and Best in Organic Garden; Surallah NHS, Best in Community Participation and Marbel 7 NHS, Best in IEC.

Marbel 7 NHS was also adjudged as Most Improved School for improving its previous ranking from being perennial consolation prize winner to third place this year.

Meanwhile in the elementary category, Lugan Central Elementary School bagged the 2nd place (P20,000.00), Sto. Nino Central Elementary School, 3rd place (P15,000.00), Palkan Elementary School, 4th place (P10,000.00) and Tampakan Central Elementary School, 5th place (P8,000.00).

Special Awards winners in the elementary were Lugan CES (Best in Recycling), Tampakan CES (Best in Composting) and Lopez Jaena ES (Best in Recycling).

Consolation prize winners received P5,000.00 cash incentive and were as follows: High School – Sergio Legayada National High School (Norala), Guinsang-an National High School (Sto. Nino), T’boli National High School (T’boli) and Rang-ay Integrated School (Banga); Elementary – Lopez Jaena Elementary School (Norala), Moloy Elementary School (Surallah), Liwanay Elementary School (Banga), Bukay Pait Elementary School (Tantangan) and Kalkam Elementary School (Tupi).

The initial evaluation is equivalent to 40 percentage points while the final evaluation is equivalent to 60 percentage points.

The criteria of the contest are as follows: System and Process (60%); Organization and Support System (30%); Cleanliness and BeaUtification (5%) and Community Participation (5%).

The evaluators were Leo Atangan of the Provincial Environment Management Office, Fruto Sumagaysay Jr. of the Provincial Information Office, Hayd-Ali Suwaib of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Marlyn Dagum of the Department of Education South Cotabato Division and Gemma Guyos of South Cotabato Foundation Inc.
