South Cotabato showcases national treasures in art exhibit honoring ‘Manlilikha ng Bayan’ awardees

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — In celebration of National Heritage Month, the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, through its Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Museum (ACTM) Unit, unveiled an art exhibit featuring the remarkable images of Manlilikha ng Bayan awardees.

The exhibit’s opening ceremony was graced by no less than chanting master Rosie Sula, brasscasting master Bundos Farra, and T’nalak master weaver Barbara Ofong—three of the living treasures whose works are showcased in the exhibit. Also present was National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Commissioner Reden Ulo, who expressed admiration for South Cotabato’s continuing efforts to preserve and promote Indigenous cultural heritage.

According to Indira Cagaanan, Head of the Arts and Culture Program, the exhibit is more than just a celebration of art—it is a call for unity and cultural pride.

“Let us all actively participate in preserving and promoting our invaluable heritage for generations to come. As we embark on a journey of discovering and celebrating the beauty and diversity of our Filipino culture, this month is a time to reconnect—or to connect—with our roots, appreciate our traditions, and share the pride of being Filipino. Especially of being South Cotabateño, or being Tboli, being Blaan, being Ipis, or being from South Cotabato,” Cagaanan said.

The event not only honors the legacy of the province’s living cultural icons but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of keeping Indigenous knowledge, identity, and expression alive in a rapidly changing world.

The exhibit is open to the public throughout the month.
